Marcus Payne

Years back I gave Marcus my skateboard to ‘borrow’. It was a great deck, Toys ‘R’ Us I think? Anyway, he had that for a few weeks and started doing the average... ollies, kickflips and generally just getting really good really quickly. He shredded the shit out of that board (wasn’t happy). Things have progressed a bit since then and I figured that since I gave him his first board, it became my duty to keep supplying them when the company was created. I think it’s pretty plain to see that he deserves the sponsorship at the rate he is progressing.

So its official, Marcus Payne is Herbal Skateboards first team rider. Its our hope that by supporting Marcus in his skateboarding escapade he will excel even further and put style back into skating parks. We hope to push his name out as far as possible, line him up with some other free stuff from other companies and at the same time, im sure you will agree, that he will be pushing the brand onwards and upwards.

Adam Keys

We are proud to introduce Adam Keys as the second Herbal team rider. After many sessions with Marcus, Adam proved that he was not only a catalyst for Marcus to feed off and excel from, but a skater with real talent and a super-tech approach to all his tricks. He is nailing all kinds of madness; Hardflip reverts, Fakie Bigspin 180 out.. Sounds alright a?! When Marcus and himself get together to session, all kinds of craziness kicks off! The literally feed off each other in some kind of insane competition.. i don't mind watching the sparks fly - a real spectacle!

Check out the Emsworth edit on this page and his first appearance in the Chi Multi edit.

Short Interview With Marcus

For those of you who have met Keese, you will know that sometimes he has trouble explaining himself and his views, so you can imagine the fun I had trying to get this interview out of him!

Herbal Skateboards: So when did skateboarding start to become a major part of your lifestyle, Keese?
Marcus Payne: When I realised that blading was for pussies, ha. Skateboarding was far more of a challenge for me. Td showed me the light, they helped me stop skating mongo

HS: Who is TD?
MP: TD, erm… it’s most of the Hayling locals that grew up skating ghetto spots like the black and the pumping station. Oh and HIADS. TD stands for Team Dolphin by the way. Not a clue why.

HS: So you have been skating for how many years?
MP: Seven and a bit

HS: What is it that keeps bringing you back to the Skateparks?
MP: Wanting to just zone out and relax. When im skating im not thinking about anything other than my board. You can switch off to everything that’s going on elsewhere… Its hard to explain the satisfaction of learning a new trick, or just landing an old one superclean to anyone who has never done it before.

HS: What’s the most satisfying trick for you to land?
MP: Erm…. Probably nollie 360 heels.

HS: How would you feel to be making a living off skateboarding someday?
MP: I would be stoked of course! I would just have to take it one day at a time, not let anything go to my head. With so many quality skaters out there it would be hard work keeping up.

HS: Favourite park you have skated?
MP: Probably Playstation. Oh sorry, ‘BaySixty6’.

HS: Why?
MP: Because it’s the best covered skatepark I am able to skate on a frequent basis. It has everything to offer, plus it’s just an hour and a half down the road.

HS: Finally, how do you feel about being officially signed to Herbal Skateboards?
MP: I feel like Good! Really good. Im excited about what the future may have to offer for me now! It’s a real confidence boost and a step in the right direction.

HS: Cheers Marcus.
