BaySixty6 Skatepark
This skatepark needs no introduction. Everyone has skated this park and if you haven’t then you should! Right now!
When anyone mentions a session there I immediately visualise the perfect mini-ramp. It’s long but not too long, whippy but not too whippy and the coping is subtle but not too subtle. It’s world class. Literally. We met some Israelis in Barcelona a few years ago and they were as stoked on it as I am.
Being located in the ghetto of London, this park has had it’s ups and downs. Originally Sony Playstation’s skatepark, it was (ironically) bought out by Microsoft XBOX and renamed BaySixty6. Soon after, there was a fire which destroyed half of the street course. After all the drama, they finally got it sorted. The street sections been rebuilt with the addition of a spined wooden bowl, half of which is pretty much half a bowl with a tall vert corner and a bank-to-box. This ‘half bowl’ threads you out into the rest of the street course. It looks a bit bare now-a-days but it definitely flows a lot better. There’s now a couple of steep hips and steep and very floaty euro-gap and the mandatory handrail. Also round by the mini-ramp they have the vert ramp and the midi.
There’s a few angry skaters there but all in all everyone’s friendly. In my opinion you’ve gotta be up for the shred and pumped for the session to make it worth the money and the travel. Check out the BaySixty6 website for more details, pics and the event calendar. Alex probably wont let me post a link.
